Cycling route 'China in Poperinge'

The cycling route starts at the town square in Poperinge. It takes you along a number of special locations that are connected to China, Poperinge and the First World War.

In the summer of 1917, the first Chinese workers arrived in Poperinge. They work for the British army and will stay until 1920. They live in separate camps and have their own rituals. The Chinese do not come as soldiers, but as guest workers. The Chinese Labor Corps is involved in the construction of railways, the construction of camouflage nets, the maintenance of tanks and the unloading of ammunition. After the war, they are responsible for clearing the battlefield.

What traces did they leave in Poperinge and surroundings? Discover it during this bike ride.
