The Yser quietly creeps into the Westhoek from across the French border and makes its way through Roesbrugge. This offers one beautiful Yser panorama after another. Water is therefore central to the village: for canoeing/kayaking or for walking along winding country lanes and narrow bridges.
This small but charming village on the ‘schreve’ (border) plays a leading role in numerous exciting smuggling histories. After all, tobacco and alcohol were smuggled across the border here.
