The monument consists of an imposing sculpture of an electric guitar, symbolizing the band’s raw energy and musical virtuosity. Additionally, an informative panel offers an engaging insight into Metallica’s history, their greatest hits, and their special connection with Poperinge.
Forty years ago, the metal band performed for the first time in our country before fewer than 1,000 spectators. That same year, Metallica played twice in Poperinge, marking their breakthrough in Europe. To celebrate Metallica’s anniversary and the Heavy Sound Festival where they performed, this monument was unveiled in June 2024.
