In the rural village centre of Watou stands St Bavo's church, a three-aisled hall church, which retains from its Romanesque construction of 1150-1200 the brick part of the west facade of the nave and the tower base. In the 16th century, the church was enlarged and gothically remodelled. The sacristy dates from 1804, baptistery and vestibule are from 1837. The pseudo-Romanesque gable top with rose window and part of the octagonal crossing tower are 19th century. The cross vault of 1840 was designed by priest-architect J. Clarysse.
