The 'Four Days of the Yser' is an international march organised by the Belgian Defence Force in collaboration with the municipalities of Koksijde, Nieuwpoort, Diksmuide, Poperinge and Ypres. This annual event, which takes place on the coast and in the Westhoek, is open to civilians and military personnel from home and abroad.
The 'Four Days of the Yser' offers four days of walking fun for all ages every year during the first full week after 15 August. Walkers can choose how many days they wish to participate in and when. Different distances are offered each day: 8, 16, 24 and 32 km. Alternative routes are provided to maximise participation in G-sports.
There is at least one daily ceremony to commemorate soldiers and civilians who fell victim to both world wars, particularly World War I given the region's history.
Poperinge walking day: Thursday, August 20, 2026
