St Sixtus Abbey in Westvleteren is world-famous for its Trappist beer. In this peaceful setting, we explore the hop landscape around Poperinge. We step through a patchwork of forests, hopfields, fields and meadows. Near the British military cemetery, a front hospital was set up in World War I. St Sixtus woods are home to roe deer, chances are we will spot one on this walk. In the Peace across from the abbey is the only place in the world authorised to pour Westvleteren Trappist.

This walking route is integrated as a suggestion loop in the Hoppeland walking network map. There will no longer be a separate leaflet with map of the walking route, but the signposting will be retained.
